It always inspires a little melancholy feeling when we realize that the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s summer seasons is heading to a close.

The good news, though, is it wraps up with the spectacular Cabaret& Performance Conference, and this year’s cabaret fun doesn’t even kick off untilWednesday, July 29.

The conference, under the director of John McDaniel, promises tremendous performances by the cabaret fellows and junior fellows, by The Skivvies, and by Natalie Douglas, among others.

The star of the proceedings, though, is Shirley Jones. The Oscar winner (for “Elmer Gentry”) will sing in an August 7 show. Jones starred in some classic movie musicals, including “The Music Man,” “Carousel” and “Oklahoma!,” and she led “The Partridge Family” on TV in the early 1970s.
