New London Legion sweeps Tolland in state tournament

New London — Pieter Khoury drove in three runs, including the go- ahead run on a base hit in the seventh inning, as New London rallied from a 3- 0 deficit to defeat Tolland 5-3 on Thursday in the third round of the Connecticu­t American Legion baseball tournament at Sal Amanti Field.

New London, the Zone VI champion, swept the best-of-three series and advances to the Northern Division Final Four on Saturday at South Windsor against an opponent to be determined.

Khourywas also the winning pitcher, going 7.1 innings and scattering nine hits without walking a batter. Justin Marceau pitched the final 1.2 innings for the save, allowing just one hit.

New London trailed 3-0 in the fifth when it erupted for three runs to tie the score, the key hit Khoury's tworun double.

He also drove in Cooper Robinson with an RBI single in the seventh to give New London a 4-3 lead, and Marceau hit a solo homer in the ninth.

State LL Div. 3 softball (9-10)

• Waterford won its opening game of the Connecticu­t Little League Division 3 (9-10) softball tournament with a 10-0 victory over Rocky Hill. Anny Dziecinny and Maddie Burrows combined to pitch a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts for the District 10 champs, who play Cromwell on Friday atWaterfor­d South with the winner advancing to the division final.

MilenaWalk­er led the offense with three hits, including a home run and double, while Abby Maynard had two hits and scored four runs, Burrows had three hits, Tori Kiefer had a single and double, Anna Donahue and Emma Marelli each had two hits and Dziecinny had a double.

Tigers sweep Batavia

• The Connecticu­t Tigers completed a three-game sweep of the Batavia Muckdogs with an 11-2 win in a New York-Penn League game.

The Tigers (16-16) scored all 11 runs in the final three innings.

Victor Padron finished with two hits and three RBI while Will Allen and Tanner Donnels each had two hits and two RBI.

Jack Fisher got the win with two shutout innings of relief, although starter Ryan Castellano­s allowed only one run on four hits over five innings.
