Jerome Silverstein
Waterford— Jerome Silverstein, 82, resident of Atria in Waterford, formerly of North Franklin, died peacefully in his sleep Friday, July 24, 2015.
Jerome was born on Dec. 27, 1932, in Bronx, N.Y., the son of the late Isaac and Dorothy Silverstein.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marian S. Silverstein of Waterford, retired owner of Towne Liquor Store in Norwich; and nieces, Betsy Alter Eichholz of Norwich, Rochelle Levine (Zachary) of Charlotte, N.C., Karen Scopino of Mystic, Debbie Larkin (Cliff) of Preston, Tova Kantrowitz (Gary) of West Hempstead, N.Y., Dodie Rothschild (Brian) of Brooklyn, N.Y.; nephews, David G. Alter (Carol) of Vernon, Charles Alter (Bonnie) of Manhattan, N.Y., Meyer Stepner (Lisa) of Israel and Saul Stepner (Rachel) of Teaneck, N.J.; cousin, Herbie Maggenheim (Beverly) of Queens, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Ruth Silverstein of North Franklin; and brother-in-law, Jerome Stepner of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Mamadou Diop, who provided two years of loving care.
Jerome was a veteran of the KoreanWar and was stationed in Inchon. Jerome was one of the founders and past president of Pas-Pak Industries in Norwich. He was an active member and past president of The Norwich Rotary Club, received the Paul Harris Award and supported many organizations in southeastern Connecticut, including the Senior Job Bank, Chelsea Gardens, Willimantic Theater, Southeastern CT Foundation and was a patron of The Spirit of Broadway and Goodspeed Opera House.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2015, at the Brothers of Joseph Cemetery in Preston.
Shiva will be observed from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at the home of Marian Silverstein, 1 Beechwood Drive, Apt. 333, Waterford.
