East Lyme— William “Bill” Henry Birdsell, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, at Bride Brook Rehabilita­tion and Health Center in Niantic. Hewas the beloved husband of Mabel (Ungemack) Birdsell for 69 years.

Bill was born in Greenwich on Nov. 14, 1922, son of the late Chester and Johanna (Koehlert) Birdsell. He attended Greenwich High School, entered the U.S. Army in World War II, and returned home to work at Greenwich Hardware. He was an avid bowler, scoring a perfect 300 game, an ardent golfer, scoring a hole in one, and was a lifelong enthusiast­ic New York Yankee fan. He lived all his life in Greenwich until 10 years ago when they moved to Niantic.

Bill is survived by a son, William Birdsell Jr. and his wife, Regina Sullivan Birdsell, of Old Lyme; a grandson, Scott Birdsell and his wife, Natalee, and their son, Connor Birdsell of North Carolina. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Trudy Ungemack of Armonk, N.Y., and Clem Ungemack of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

In honoring his wishes, there will be no formal services.

Memorial donations may be made to the donor’s choice.

The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck is assisting with arrangemen­ts.
