Groton — Betty Jane Curry of 22 Baker Ave. passed away Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015.

She was born in March of 1930, in Youngstown, Ohio. She married Harry G. Curry in 1952.

Betty Jane graduated from Brookfield (Ohio) High School as part of the Class of 1948. One year later, she graduated from Grace Martin Business School in Pittsburgh, Pa. A Navy wife for more than 20 years, Betty Jane had the difficult but loving responsibi­lity of raising her four children for long periods while Harry, who rose to rank of lieutenant commander, was at sea.

After raising her children, Betty Jane found employment at Bond Press in Hartford. She then worked 15 years preparing taxes for the H&R Block offices in Hartford and Groton. Throughout her years, she volunteere­d for Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society and the Girl Scouts of America. A member of the Poquonnock Bridge Baptist Church, Betty Jane was active in the ladies’ circle and various outreach activities. She enjoyed many nights listening to Boston Red Sox on the radio and watching the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team.

In addition to Harry, her husband of 60 years, she is survived by daughter, Linda C. Pelcher of Oak Island, N.C.; son, Dennis V. Curry of Groton; daughter, Jana Tripp of New Hartford; sister, Marian A. Curry of Brookfield, Ohio; five grandchild­ren, Harleigh Chwastyk, Kyle Leach, John Lynd, Amie-Jaye Campbell and Nicholas Root; and 11 great-grandchild­ren, who kept a special place in her heart.

She was predecease­d by a daughter, Charmaine C. Hutcheson of Galway, N.Y.; her father, John D. Allen; mother, Fern A. Allen; and brother, Jack Allen Jr.

Memorial services with friends followed by a reception will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the Poquonnock Bridge Baptist Church, 1241 Poquonnock Road, Groton. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. There will be no visiting hours.

Donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the Poquonnock Bridge Baptist Church or the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society.
