Vero Beach, Fla., for 27 years, after coming from North Stonington. He was a 1951 graduate of University of Connecticu­t in Storrs, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy on the USS Gearing and USS Saturn. He was discharged from the service in 1946.

His early career as an industrial engineer was spent with various companies including Remington Rand, Westinghou­se Electric, Avco Lycoming and RCA.

In 1955, he married Gloria Gehmlich in Salem Lutheran Church, Bridgeport.

In 1963, he joined General Dynamics Corp. and retired 25 years later as a manager of human resources at the Data Systems Division in Norwich.

He was active in both charitable and community activities and clubs including Lions, Rotary, Elks and formed SCORE at Avery Point, Groton, after retiring.

He was a member of the Shennnecos­sett Yacht Club and spent winters in Florida and summers in North Stonington and Groton. He was very proud to be able to be on the Southeast Honor Flight in 2013 to Washington.

Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, at Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly. A funeral service will be held at noon in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in River Bend Cemetery.
