EL’s Bazinet captures ECC diving crown

East Lyme — Jazzy Bazinet of East Lyme won the diving title at the Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Championsh­ip on Friday.

Bazinet, a senior, won with a score of 386.75 points. Jocelyn McNally of NFA was second with 329.75.

Rounding out the top five were Sophia Podeszwa of Waterford (312.50), Reilly Lanagan of Windham/Lyman Memorial (278.50) and Kelsie Hall of NFA (270.00). The rest of the ECC girls' swimming events will be contested today at UConn-Avery Point, beginning at 2 p.m.

College volleyball

• No. 6 Connecticu­t College fell to No. 3 Amherst in the New England Small College Athletic Conference tournament quarterfin­als, 3-0. Amherst won 28-22, 25-12, 25-15. Katia Eisman had 19 assists, Cailyn Straubel had 18 digs, Caroline Martin had 13 digs, Sam Hunter had eight kills and Caroline Branigan had 11 digs for Conn.

College field hockey

• Charlotte Veitner had two goals and an assist as No. 1 UConn beat No. 4 Old Dominion in the Big East Conference tournament semifinals, 4-3. The Huskies (19-0) play No. 2 Temple in Sunday's final. Anna Middendorf and Casey Umstead also scored for UConn.

Men's swimming

• Freshman Dan Moreno won three events while classmate Taylor Rowe won twice as Coast Guard beat Wheaton 175-119. Moreno won the 200 freestyle (1:46.00), the 200 IM (1:59.16) and the 200 breaststro­ke (2:14.22) while Rowe won the 500 freestyle (4:53.92) and the 1,000 freestyle (10:08.79),

Chasse Sodemann won the 100 breaststro­ke (59.56), Londen Thomas won the 200 butterfly (2:03.55) and Will French won the 3-meter diving event with a score of 274.58 for Coast Guard (2-0).
