MACHINIST’S MATE JOSHUA KERR HONORED AS SAILOR OF QUARTER
Groton — Machinist’s Mate 1st Class (Submarine) Joshua Kerr is Naval Submarine School’s Sailor of the Fourth Quarter 2015. Kerr was selected on Oct. 20 in award ceremonies sponsored by the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 20.
Kerr is the lead instructor for the Basic Mechanical Skills, BMS, Course and Assistant Command Fitness Leader.
Capt. Andrew C. Jarrett, commanding officer, Naval Submarine School, praised Kerr for “consistently performing his duties in an exemplary and highly professional manner. “His efforts resulted in 99 percent course ‘pass’ rate that ensured the submarine force received highly motivated Sailors ready to make an immediate impact.”
Kerr received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Gold Star in lieu of Third Award) and was presented with a replica statuette of the Lone Sailor by George Hyland of the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 20.
Sonar Technician 2nd Class (Submarines) Jamil Merchant was the Junior Sailor of the Quarter, selected by the Naval Submarine School 1st Class Petty Officer Association.
Sonar Technician 1st Class (Submarines) Gregory Hawkins was honored by the Naval Submarine School Master Training Board as Instructor of the Fourth Quarter of 2015.
Also honored were Electronics Technician 2nd Class (Submarines) Eugenius Paule, as Junior Enlisted Instructor of the Year; Navy Diver 1st Class (Diving Salvage Warfare/Surface Warfare/ Fleet Marne Force Warfare Specialist) Lawrence Dombrow, as Mid-Grade Enlisted Instructor of the Year; Sonar Technician Chief Petty Officer (Submarine) Robert Cacchiola, as Senior Enlisted Instructor of the Year, and Lt. Nathaniel Backstrom as Officer Instructor of the Year.
