Waterford — Christos Athanasios Stavrou, 71, beloved husband, father, grandfathe­r and brother, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family on Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, at his home in Waterford.

Mr. Stavrou was born on Dec. 18, 1944, in Haravgi Pogoniou Ioannina, Greece, the son of the late Amalia and Athanasios Stavrou. He was the middle child of three brothers and is survived by his brother, George Stavrou, and predecease­d by brother, Hlias Stavrou.

After immigratin­g to the United States, he wedded Maria Goumenos on Nov. 24, 1977.

Mr. Stavrou was a talented and dedicated chef for over 50 years as an owner of Omega Restaurant and chef at Olympic Pizza in Norwich. He will be remembered as a kindhearte­d, intelligen­t, loving and humble family man and will never be forgotten. He was a longstandi­ng member of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in New London.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Maria; his daughters, Christina Cristofaro and spouse, Dominick Cristofaro, of Tampa, Fla., Amalia Stavrou of Waterford; and three grandchild­ren, Alexandra, Gabriela and Anthony Cristofaro of Tampa.

Calling hours will be held at 10 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21, at St. Sophia Hellenic Orthodox Church, New London. Burial services will then be held at Cedar Grove Cemetery, New London.
