Bacon Academy girls upset No. 4 NFA and take over first place in ECC Large

Norwich — Bacon Academy took over sole possession of first place in the Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Large Division with a 48-34 victory over the fourth-ranked Norwich Free Academy girls' basketball team on Tuesday night.

The Wildcats ( 7- 2, 4- 1) played without Cebria Outlow, The Day's 2014-15 All-Area Player of the Year, who sat out with an injury. NFA will play host to No. 2 Mercy on Thursday night at 7 in a game that was changed from its original Saturday date.

Bacon ( 11- 1, 5- 0) broke open a close game in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Wildcats 18-9. Abby Willauer scored 13 points to lead the Bobcats while Jill Reynolds and Jocilyn Luizzi added 12 points apiece.

Mackenzie Burke scored 12 points to lead NFA. In other games: • Brooke Lavallie made two free throws with 4 seconds left to give Montville a 31-30 win over St. Bernard. Lavallie scored nine for the Indians (2-10). Caitlyn Dittman scored 18 points for the Saints (4-6) and Kara Bassett had 12 rebounds.

• Julia Lavin scored 21 points as Ledyard defeated East Lyme 46-38 in the ECC Large Division. Sarah Serbascewi­cz added 15 points for the Colonels (6-5, 2-3) while Megan Bauman scored 14 points for the Vikings (4-6, 2-3) and Maggy Powers had nine points and seven rebounds.

• Vanessa Kobyluck led a balanced Waterford attack with 15 points and 14 rebounds as the Lancers defeated Windham 61-49. Mia Brennan added 12 points and six steals for Waterford (81) while Shea Spellman had 11 points, eight rebounds and six steals and Kayla Jean-Pierre finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Shania Slyman made four 3-pointers and scored 21 for Windham.

• Taty LaFrance Boyce scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds, leading Stonington to a 49-24 win over Lyman Memorial. Kate Hall had 14 points and Cameron Dreher had eight rebounds for Stonington (7-2).

• Vinal Tech led 30- 4 at halftime and went on to beat Grasso Tech in a Constituti­on State Conference game, 55-20. Morgan McNeil and Lindsay Murray scored nine points each for Grasso (0-10).

• Marissa Shirshac scored 20 points as Windham Tech beat Norwich Tech 52-26 in a CSC East Division game. Madison Bodley led Norwich Tech (3-6, 3-3) with eight points.

Boys

• Isaiah Cunningham Hodge scored 23 points as New London beat Griswold 69-61. D. Major Roman had 11 points and 15 rebounds, Gio Lopez had 19 points and Tyrell Martinez scored 10 for New London (4-5).

• Landon Peabody scored 20 points and Waterford erupted for 48 points in the second half to pull away from Windham, 73-60. Jeff Evans added 12 points and 15 rebound for the Lancers (4- 4) while Mike Buscetto finished with 10 points, seven assists and five steals and Kevin Johnson scored 11 points.

• Jacob Sulik scored 21 points, leading Norwich Tech to a 77-73 win over Windham Tech in a CSC East Division game. Alex Casillas had 18 points and Jared Neal scored 17, including four key free throws down the stretch, for Norwich Tech (5-3, 4-0).

• John Vogt scored 19 points to lead St. Bernard to a 49-36 win over Montville. Sam Vogt had 13 points and went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter for the Saints (4-5). Eric Beavin had 15 points and eight rebounds and TT Bowens had 11 points and 15 rebounds for Montville (2-7).

• Grasso Tech lost to Vinal Tech in a CSC game, 82- 44. Osyrus Vazquez led Grasso (1-8) with 14 points.
