Commenters on theday.com had this to say about the Feb. 24 editorial, “Capability in doubt, Maynard should step down,” urging state Sen. Andrew Maynard, D-Stonington, to resign from his 18th District seat. The editorial pointed to concerns about Maynard’s ability to serve effectively due to the brain injury he suffered in a 2014 fall.

“Thank you for an editorial that is clearly deliberated, well said, and aptly concluded. But another bureaucrat, too, should step down: State Senate Democratic Caucus spokesman Adam Joseph. According to a news article in the January 15, 2016 issue of The Day: ‘Joseph, the caucus spokesman, said Maynard had been cleared to drive.’ If that mysterious uncredited “clearance” was not disclosed in the police report, then it surely was a LIE.”

“Well written and very troubling. I remember when Senator Maynard was first injured there was discussion on whether there was a precedent or legislation that addressed his situation. I believe there was nothing. The General Assembly leadership needs to formally legislate what the steps are to handle the incapacitation of one of its members so this does not happen again.”

“Excellent editorial.” — Jack Bernhard

“I agree with everything in this editorial except making an exception so that he will get lifetime medical benefits. He is only 54 and had served only 8 years before this term. No public employee should be able to get a pension after only 10 years of part time work.”

“Excellent editorial. Senate Democrats perpetrated a fraud on the CT voters.”

“Well written editorial. I also don’t believe that state workers should receive lifetime benefits after such a small period of time of employment.”

Well done New London Day. You qualify to give the Waterford Police Dep’t a course on investigation and consistency.
