Mystic — Helen I. (Pavlak) Bowden, 94, of Mystic, wife of the late Newman F. Bowden, passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, at Academy Point, where she was a resident for the last several years.

Born in Yantic, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Anna (Tumicki) Pavlak.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting and gardening. “Sue,” as she was known from the time she was a child, and her late husband were members of the Jolly Squares Square Dance Club and traveled around the country dancing with their friends. She was a parishione­r at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church in Groton.

Helen is survived by her two children, Newman F. Bowden Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Dawsonvill­e, Ga., and Susan Corallino and her husband, Francis, of Mystic; four grandchild­ren, Dawn Aglipay and her husband, Dennis, and Newman F. Bowden III, all of Pace, Fla., Amanda Evans and her husband, Ryan, of Griswold and Andrew Corallino and his girlfriend, Amy Weber, of Groton; five great-grandchild­ren, as well as one on the way; and two great-great-grandchild­ren.

She was predecease­d by a sister, Mary Hand, and four brothers, Walter, Edward, Edmund and Henry Pavlak.

The family would like to thank the staff at Academy Point in Mystic and Vitas Hospice for the care and comfort shown during Helen’s long illness.

Funeral services and burial will be private.
