UConn baseball team wins Governors Challenge at Austin Peay

Clarksvill­e, Tenn. — UConn put together a 21- hit attack and rolled past Alcorn State 25-3 on Sunday to win the Governors Challenge at Austin Peay.

The Huskies (4-2) went 3-0 on the weekend, also defeating Missouri State and Austin Peay.

Former Wheeler standout Troy Stefanski homered, singled and scored twice, Groton's Aaron Hill scored three runs, drove in three runs and stole a base and Stonington's Connor Buckley had two hits and scored twice for UConn.

Joe DeRoche-Duffin drove in four runs and Willy Yahn and Bryan Dani- ello each scored four times for UConn.

Buckley homered and drove in three runs and Stefanski was 2-for- 4 with a triple and scored twice as UConn beat Austin Peay 19-4 on Saturday.

Men's basketball

• St. Thomas More is the No. 4 seed in the NEPSAC Class AAA tournament and will host No. 5 Brewster Academy on Wednesday in the first round at 3:30 p.m. The Chancellor­s (27-5) closed out their regular season with an 85-67 win over Naval Prep on Saturday night. E.J. Crawford had 14 points, Charlie Brown had 12 points and six rebounds and Canaan Bradley scored 10 for T-More.

H.S. indoor track

• Ledyard senior Megan Brawner finished 16th in the 1000-meter run at the New England Championsh­ips in Boston. Brawner's time was 3:04.97.

Men's hockey

• UConn will host Vermont in the opening round of the Hockey East tournament. The best-of-three series opens Friday at 7:05 p.m., with Game 2 on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Game 3, if necessary, will be Sunday at 5:05 p.m.

The Huskies closed out their regular season by beating New Hampshire 5-4 in overtime on Saturday to sweep the weekend series. Corey Ronan scored 3:08 into overtime for the win. Joey Ferriss scored twice and Tage Thompson and Spencer Naas also scored for UConn (11-19-4, 6-12-4).

College wrestling

• Sophomore Chris Sullivan was the top Coast Guard Academy finisher as he placed fourth, earning all-region honors with two teammates in the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional at Springfiel­d College. Sullivan, the second seed, lost in the semifinals, 6-3 to Jorge Lopez from Williams to begin the second day of competitio­n. He then won a 10-4 decision over Eamonn Gaffney from Ithaca in the consolatio­n semifinal, but lost an 8- 4 decision against Ty Herzog from Roger Williams in third-place consolatio­n final.

Marc Wagner, seeded fifth at 184 won a 5-4 decision over Dan Wensley from WPI before losing to Joe Albina from Roger Williams 8-5. He beat Dae; Sean Brown of Johnson & Wales 4-3 in the fifth-place place final. Dan Fiorvanti, the eighth seed at 174, won an 8-1 decision over Shaun Gillen from Oneonta State, lost to Dan Ressier from Roger Williams 7- 4 in the consolatio­n semifinals and was beaten by Ithaca's Jaison White 12-8 in the fifth-place match.
