Ledyard — John Stephen Davis, 81, of Gales Ferry, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London.

He was born on Sept. 21, 1934, in Renton, Wash., the son of Clifford and Edna (Hay) Davis. John was married to Joyce (Gebhardt) Davis on Dec. 17, 1955 (60 years).

John served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1960 and had a long career as an electrical engineer for Rockwell Internatio­nal.

He was active for many years in the Norwich American Legion (Post #4) and the Groton Sportsmen’s Club. From a very young age he had a passion for taking apart clocks, machines and cars, and putting them back together. Over the years, he greatly enjoyed helping neighbors, family and friends by repairing various items for them.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Brent Davis of North Attleboro, Mass.; his daughters, Kim Sciancalep­ore of Hasbrouck Heights, N.J. and Shelley Chenonceau of Norwich; and eight grandchild­ren, Crystal Root Santos; Victoria, Nicholas and Christophe­r Sciancalep­ore; Emily and Heather Davis; and Kayla and Arianne Davis.

He is predecease­d by his son, Lane Davis; and his brother, Clifford “Kip” Davis.

Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. April 11, at Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., Groton. Burial was private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV.org) or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF. org).
