Louise Drew
Waterford — Louise (Reynolds) Drew, formerly of Great Neck Road, Waterford, died Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Groton Regency.
She was born Feb. 27, 1928, in Norwich, the daughter of Albert Lewis and Mary (Hollingworth) Reynolds. Louise was a descendant of John Reynolds, one of the 13 original founders of Norwich and Old Saybrook, and of Thomas Lee of East Lyme and the Griswold Family of Old Lyme.
Louise graduated from the Mary A. Burnham School in 1945, received a bachelor of science degree from Brenau College in 1949, and completed graduate studies at Teachers College of Columbia University in New York City.
Her career spanned 34 years in private and public education in Florida, New York, New Jersey and locally at Stonington High School and New London High School, retiring in 1982.
Mrs. Drew’s community activities were extensive and included association with Lawrence + Memorial Hospital as a former corporator, member of the Development Council as well as past president of Lawrence Memorial Benefactors Assoc. (L.A.M.B.S.). She was a former treasurer of the Colonial Dames of Connecticut. Mrs. Drew also was a former member of the Vestry of St. James Episcopal Church, and former trustee of the Historic Pequot Chapel.
She was married to Lawrence J. Drew in 1967. Mr. Drew died in 2005. Her sister, Gail Reynolds Werwaiss, died in 2004.
Survivors include two nephews, Frederick W. Werwaiss II of North Chatham, N.Y. and Andrew Reynolds Werwaiss of Georgetown, Maine: a niece, Emily Werwaiss Duffy of Higganum; and grandnieces, Abigail Reynolds Werwaiss and Willa Werwaiss; as well as grandnephews, Albin and Otto Werwaiss; and her brother-inlaw, William Werwaiss.
The funeral service and burial in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston, R.I. was private and there were no calling hours.
