ART OPENINGS
Mystic Museum of Art’s Regional Show Opens Friday, with opening reception 5:30-7 p.m. Aug. 11 Mystic Museum of Art, 9 Water St. This 60th exhibition is an all-media juried show. Margot McIlwain Nishimura, the deputy director of collections, programming and public engagement at the Newport Restoration Foundation, is the juror. Runs through Sept. 17, as does an exhibition of works by last year’s Regional Show winner, Sarah Stifler Lucas. Hours 11 a.m.-5 p.m. daily; (860) 536-7601.
The Distance Between Us
Opening reception 5-7 p.m. Friday Lyman Allyn Art Museum, 625 Williams St., New London; “The Distance Between Us” began as a book by photojournalist Christopher Capozziello. It has now been adapted into a photographic exhibition as part of Lyman Allyn’s “Near :: New” series. Capozziello turns his camera on his own life and that of his twin brother, Nick, who has cerebral palsy. Beneath the Skin
Opening reception 7-10 p.m. Friday Hygienic Art Galleries, 79 Bank St., New London Features portrayals of the figure by Hygienic Art Galleries’ resident artist Justin Anderson and artists Cai Vail, Erin McNeill, Brian Galderisi and Brad Silk, who are baseed in nearby metropolitan areas such as New York City and Boston. The Stone Gallery at Maple and Main, 1 Maple St., Chester
Artist and poet Gray Jacobik is combining paintings and her literary work for the first time in this solo exhibit. Gray, who lives and works in Deep River, will give a reading of selected work from her latest collection of poetry, “The Banquet,” 7-8 p.m. Aug. 25 at the gallery. Runs through August. The Monday Plein Air Artists
Opening reception 5-7:56 p.m. Wednesday Hoxie Gallery, Westerly Library, 44 Broad St. The Monday Plein Air Artists consists of 23 artists who live and work along the Connecticut and Rhode Island shorelines. The group was founded by Juan O’Callahan of Stonington and includes working artists, illustrators, teachers, engineers and other professionals who have found painting the outdoors an inspiration for their creativity.
