Conn College sweeps ECSU

New London — Junior outside hitter Belinda Mullaly chipped in 10 digs, four kills and three aces to power Connecticu­t College to a 3-0 sweep of Eastern Connecticu­t State University in a non-conference volleyball match Tuesday at Luce Field House. Game scores were 25-16, 25-10 and 25-19. Sophomore Jenny Kellogg had eight kills and senior Ella Johnson added six kills while junior Katie Elisman had 23 assists and four kills for the Camels (7-3).

Senior Adrianna Mihalek had eight kills, 11 assists, seven digs and two aces for Eastern (97). In other matches: • Freshman Angelou Dunton had 10 kills and three aces in Coast Guard Academy's 3-0 loss to Babson in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference. Game scores were 25-14, 28-26 and 25-21. Susan West had five kills and five digs while junior Michelle McGill added eight digs for the Bears (7-6, 2-3).

• Mitchell College dropped a 3-0 decision to Trinity College in a non-conference match. Game scores were 25-23, 25-15 and 25-18. Myia Williams paced the Mariners (3-7) with six kills while Janelle Rice had five kills and 15 assists and Colby Zitoli added a match-high 18 digs.

Local golf

• First-round leader Bill Hermanson of East Lyme carded a 74 in the final round of the 71st Connecticu­t Senior Amateur Championsh­ip at Madison Country Club and finished fourth overall at 4-over 144. Dave Szewczul, Hermanson's good friend and frequent playing partner, rallied to win the event, firing a 3-under 67 to finish at 1-under 139 overall.

Hermanson, a member at Black Hall Club in Old Lyme, took a two-stroke lead into Tuesday's final round before battling through an up and down day that included an eagle, two birdies, eight pars, six bogeys and one double bogey.

• Several local golfers recently recorded a hole-in-one at area courses. At Pequot Golf Club, Frank Zugel and Mike Nolan both aced the 140-yard ninth hole on different days this month. At Stonington Country Club, Angie Giannelli had a hole-in-one from 90 yards on the 12th hole while Chris Morin aced the 189-yard, No. 2 hole, on Sunday. Stonington member Cathleen Holland had a hole-in-one on the 17th hole at Richmond Country Club in Rhode Island.

In other Stonington news, Bob Johnsen and Dave Parkinson combined to win the President's Cup on Sunday with a net score of 62 last weekend. Michele Delmhorst and Mary Siegel won the women's division with a 67.

College notes

• The Connecticu­t College women's hockey team will play Bowdoin College at Fenway Park on Thursday, Jan. 12, starting at 4 p.m. It is part of the Frozen Fenway 2017 event that will feature several men's and women's college games.

• The undefeated Conn College women's soccer team climbed two spots in the recent National Soccer Coaches Associatio­n of America Division III national poll, ranking 20th. The Camels are 7-0.
