Waterford — Waldo Robert “Bob” Corbeil, 77, of Waterford and Barefoot Bay, Fla., husband of the late Kitty (Farrell) Corbeil, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, with his family by his side.

He was born in Mare Island, Calif., on April 26, 1939, to Arthur W. Corbeil and Elva (Gibb) Corbeil. He grew up in Pleasure Beach, Waterford and went on to graduate New London High School. After graduation, Bob proudly served in the Navy aboard the USS Fulton. After discharge, he became the first paid fireman at Goshen Fire Department, where he served until his retirement in 1996.

Following his retirement, Bob fulfilled his lifelong dream of moving to Florida and driving the golf cart down to the heated pool. He was a very kind man who was loved by all who had the pleasure to know him. Bob was known for his humor, his ability to make others smile and his willingnes­s to lend a hand. He loved to travel and was a longtime member of New London Elks Lodge 360, the American Legion and was a life member of the New London County Fire Chiefs Associatio­n.

Bob is survived by his son, Robert M. Corbeil of Waterford; his stepdaught­er, Kelly Howser of Waterford; his six grandchild­ren; his brother, Michael; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, Kitty; he was predecease­d by his parents; his brother, Arthur; and his nephew, James.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London. Burial with full military honors will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3, at Jordan Cemetery, 240 Boston Post Road, Waterford, followed by a reception at Goshen Fire Department, 63 Goshen Road, Waterford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Waldo R. Corbeil to the Goshen Fire Department, 63 Goshen Road, Waterford, CT 06385.
