LEARN NAMES ERICSON TO MAGNET SCHOOL POST
LEARN has announced that Katherine “Kate” Ericson will serve as the regional educational service center’s new associate executive director for magnet schools, starting Oct. 31.
Ericson had joined LEARN, a regional educational service center working with many school districts, in August 2015 as director of educator professional development and services.
She previously worked in the New London Public Schools as a social studies teacher, department chair, curriculum leader, supervisor of curriculum, instruction, data and assessment, and interim assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction. In 2012, she was appointed as the chief academic officer.
Prior to New London, Ericson worked in the Griswold Public Schools.
Ericson earned her bachelor’s degree in history and secondary education at Boston College, her Master of Science in special education at Southern Connecticut State University, and her administrative credential at Sacred Heart University. She is currently attending the University of Connecticut Executive Leadership program.
“We are so fortunate to have Kate Ericson on our leadership team,” Dr. Eileen S. Howley, LEARN’s executive director, said in a statement. “With her deep knowledge of integrated magnet schools as well as her experience in curriculum design, instructional improvement and the use of data, she is the perfect fit for this position. We are very fortunate to have her to support our magnet schools division.”
Ericson is replacing Dr. Peter Cummings, who recently resigned to assume his new appointment as the superintendent of schools in Narragansett, R.I.
“We are grateful to Dr. Cummings for his contributions to LEARN schools and wish him well in his new position in Rhode Island,” Howley said.
