No. 2 Williams edges No. 20 Conn women

New London — Kristi Kershe scored in the 36th minute as second-ranked Williams College edged No. 20 Connecticu­t College 1-0 on Saturday in a matchup of New England Small College Athletic Conference unbeateans.

Goalie Olivia Barnhill made 11 saves for the Ephs (7-0-1, 5-0-1), who were outshot by the Camels (7-1, 3-1) 20-15. Bryanna Montalvo made five saves in goal for Conn. In other matches: • Five different players scored goals as Regis rolled to a 5-0 win over Mitchell College in the New England Collegiate Conference. Jordan Lohneiss made 12 saves in goal for the Mariners (1-7, 1-2). Regis is 6-31, 2-1.

Men's soccer

• Coast Guard Academy scored on its lone shot to edge MIT in the New England Women's and Men'sd Athletic Conference. Alex Lane scored in the 10th minute for the Bears (7-1-2, 2-1), one-touching a shot from 20 yards out after MIT field to clear the ball out of its penalty area. Jake Sorenson made two saves in goal for Coast Guard, which was outshot 14-3.

• New London's Jose Roman III scored in the 89th minute, pulling Mitchell even in a NECC game that finished in a 1-1 tie. Roman's first goal of the season came off an assist from Christian Urena. Mitchell is 0-6-2, 0-1-1.

• Chris Lockwood's goal in the 81st minute broke a 1-1 tie and lifted Connecticu­t College to a 2-1 win over Williams in the NESCAC. Pat Devlin had a goal, Christian Murphy assisted on Lockwood's goal and Mark Cameron made five saves for Conn (6-2, 3-2).

Volleyball

• Coast Guard split a pair of matches, beating Western Connecticu­t State 3-2 after losing to host Roger Williams 3-2. Angelou Dunton had 36 kills, Michelle McGill had 36 digs and Makenna Martin had 29 digs for Coast Guard (8-8).

• Hamilton won the fifth set 15-8 to pull out a 3-2 win over Connecticu­t college in the NESCAC. Jenny Kellogg had 14 kills and 13 digs, Sam Hunter had nine kills and 16 digs, Alex McDevitt had seven kills and 21 digs and Katia Elisman had 33 assists for Conn (7-5, 2-2).

• Mitchell College lost to Daniel Webster 25-10, 25-14, 25-15 in the NECC opener for both teams. Janelle Rice had seven assists and four digs and Colby Zitoli had 12 digs for Mitchell (3-8).

Men's cross country

• Caleb Teachout placed 23rd overall in 25:59 to highlight Coast Guard's 10th-place finish at the Mike Woods Geneseo Invitation­al in Mount Morris, N.Y. CGA fnished with 253 points, well off the pace of host SUNY Geneseo's 17. Zachary Velasquez also cracked the top 50, finishing 50th in 26:51.

• Conn College placed 15th in a 45-team field at the Paul Short Invitation­al in Bethlehem, Pa. The Camels finished with 524 points, led by freshman Danny Aschale, who placed 71st over the 8K course in 25:40. Ben Bosworth also cracked the Top 100 for Conn in 94th in 25:49.

Women' cross country

• Coast Guard finished ninth in the Mike Woods Geneseo Invitation­al, scoring 263 points behind Gretchen Krause, who placed 37th in 23:32. Host Geneseo won with 22 points, Bonny Turnage was the second finisher for the Bears in 56th place (24:00).

• Conn College's Bella Franz placed 69th to lead the Camels at the Paul Short Invitation­al in Bethlehem, Pa. Franz finished the 6K course in 22:28 for Conn, which placed 34th as a team with 965 points.

Field hockey

• Hannah Goodrick had two goals and one assist to lead Williams past Conn College 4-1 in the NESCAC. Jacquelyn Murphy, assisted by Olivia Good, scored for the Camels (17, 1-4). Williams is 6-3, 3-2.
