Susan Traphagen

Montville — Susan Elizabeth Traphagen, 70, of Lisa Lane, Uncasville, passed away on Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at the William W. Backus Hospital, Norwich.

She was born Jan. 2, 1947, in New London, the daughter of Mildred (Saunders) Whipple of Gales Ferry and the late Stanley Whipple. She married Gary Traphagen on May 5, 1971, in Fresno, Calif.

Susan graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1965 and last worked as a sales clerk for Brooks Pharmacy in Uncasville. She loved to travel, do handy work, read and was an avid Yankees fan.

Besides her mother and husband, she is survived by a daughter, Patricia Traphagen of New London; her siblings, James Whipple of Gales Ferry, David Whipple and his wife, Ruth, of Southport, N.C., Robert Whipple and his wife, Jody, of N. Stonington, Lee Whipple and his wife, Shawn, of Lebanon; a brother-in-law, James Traphagen of New London; sister-in-law, Patricia Prophet and her husband, Robert, of Paso Robles, Calif.; many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.

She was predeceased by her brother, Jay Whipple.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Norwich. The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
