Lisbon — Ralph P. Alvarez, 86, died on Friday, March 3, 2017, having lived a full and happy life.

He was born on July 16, 1930, in Tempe, Ariz., son of the late Luis Alvarez and Emma (Palimino) Alvarez. Ralph is survived by his wife, Joan (Rogers) Alvarez, whom he married on July 1, 1972, in Lisbon. They created a beautiful life with many loving memories together.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, Ralph served admirably in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1972. After his retirement, Ralph was employed as a supervisor in supply management at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for 22 years. In his spare time, Ralph enjoyed woodworkin­g, creating beautiful handcrafte­d projects. He was an avid fisherman, looking forward to spending time outdoors each spring. He regularly enjoyed competing with his grandchild­ren for who would have the best catch. Ralph had a charismati­c energy that spread to every one around him and expressed genuine kindness to anyone he met. He will leave behind loving memories of all the moments shared.

In addition to his wife, Ralph is survived by his sons, Ronald J. Alvarez of Groton, Gary M. Alvarez of Tucson, Ariz., and Richard Rogers of Lisbon; a brother, Michael Alvarez of Apache Junction, Ariz.; grandchild­ren, Alicia Alvarez of San Diego, Calif., Johnathan Alvarez of Mesa, Ariz., Nolan, Sarah and Rachel Rogers of Lisbon, Alex King of San Francisco, Calif., and Colleen King of North Franklin.

He was predecease­d by his daughter, Nancy King; and brothers, Oscar, Louis and Sam.

Visitation will be for family and close friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Leffler Funeral Home in Jewett City. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at St. Mary’s Church, Jewett City. Burial will be at a later date.
