Indoor track and field

• The Coast Guard Academy and Connecticu­t College will both be represente­d at NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championsh­ips, which will be held Friday and Saturday at North Central College in Naperville, Ill. Coast Guard's 4x400-meter relay team of sophomores Nicholas Frystak and Jacob Pawlina and juniors Luke Rehfuss and

Raeford Penny earned the 12th and final qualifying spot by virtue of the effort in Saturday's Tufts Last Chance meet when they finished in 3 minutes, 19.48 seconds and edge WPI for the final spot by .04 seconds. The preliminar­y heat will be run on Friday. Conn, meanwhile, will senior seniors Bella Franz and Ben Bosworth, who qualified in the mile. Franz will run her time trail at 2 p.m. Friday and Bosworth's qualifying race will follow at 2:15. The top 10 finishers Friday will advance to the finals on Saturday. Franz is seeded sixth in the women's mile. She qualified with her school record time of 4:54.55 at at the All-New England meet on Feb. 25 in Boston. This will be her sixth appearance in a national meet, including cross country and outdoor track. Bosworth is seeded ninth in the men's mile. He qualified with a time of 4:09.14 at the Boston University Valentine Invitation­al on Feb. 11. He appeared in last year's indoor nationals with the distance medley relay team.

Honors

• Two Mitchell College baseball players received weekly honors by the New England Collegiate Conference. Junior Kyle Hartenstei­n was named Player of the Week while Axel DeJesus was selected Pitcher of the Week. Hartenstei­n hit .444 with two RBI in two games. DeJesus pitched 6.1 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits in a win over Wheaton (Ill.).

• Mitchell also had two weekly award winners on men's lacrosse. East Lyme senior Mac Brodaski was named Player of the Week and East Lyme freshman Jackson Brockwell was named Rookie of the Week. Brodaski had seven goals and three assists in a win over Albertus Magnus on March 1 while Brockwell added two goals and two assists.

• Coast Guard senior Timbo Duncan was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Player of the Week in baseball. The right fielder hit a pair of homers and drove in four runs as Coast Guard won two of three games to open their spring trip in Florida. He homered in both games of a doublehead­er sweep of Merchant Marine and hit .364 with a .909 slugging percentage during the week.

• Worcester State's Kaitlyn Berkel, a sophomore from Waterford was a second-team selection on the Massachuse­tts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball team. Berkel averaged Berkel averaged 12 points and 6.2 rebounds, shooting 44.7 percent from the floor, and finished second in the conference in blocked shots with 29.
