STATE REP. MIKE FRANCE PARTICIPATES IN ‘CIVICS IN ACTION’ DISCUSSION
Ledyard — State Rep. Mike France, R-Ledyard, participated in Ledyard High School’s “Civics in Action” roundtable discussion on Tuesday. Seated with other town, school and public safety officials, Rep. France spoke with six separate student panels of the sophomore class and answered the students’ questions.
“The students consistently brought smart, well-informed questions to the table concerning local, state and federal issues they want to advocate for,” Rep. France said in a news release. “I really enjoyed hearing about their issues and providing perspective and feedback on next steps to further their advocacy. I encourage all of our youth to continue researching, observing and making inquiries. Advocacy — especially at the local level — is such a valuable tool to get your voice heard and make a difference.”
Issues brought to light by the students during these roundtable discussions ranged from bicycle road safety to the prevention of suicide, drug and opioid addiction and animal abuse, drinking age policies, the legalization of marijuana, driver’s education requirements, PTSD and other veterans’ issues, and adoptive children’s rights to medical and genealogy DNA testing.
France introduced 10 bills about education this session. chosen by a selection process overseen by the Norwich Human Resources department using the town’s equal opportunity “Merit System Rules.”
The ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. in Room 335 at City Hall and is open to the public.
