Camel highlights

• The Connecticu­t College sailing program placed seventh out of 18 teams in the Brad Dellenbaug­h Trophy Regatta in Rhode Island. The Camels scored 138 points. Ragna Agnerup, Allie Maurillo and Issy Pieper combined to place 10th with 81 points in the A Division. The B Division team of Charlotte List, Hannah Staples and Gwynie Dunlevy took fourth with 57 points.

• Women’s hockey goalie Katherine Chester added another award to her collection. She was named to the All-United States College Hockey Online Division III third team. During her stellar senior season, Chester ranked fifth in the nation in goals against average at 1.18 and added five shutouts while leading the Camels to a 15-8-3 overall record.

Tracking the Bears

• The Coast Guard Academy 4x100 quartet of Raeford Penny,

Michael Bishop, Jacob Pawlina and Miguel Moroles earned New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference men’s track relay team of the week honors. They combined to place second at the Corsair Classic last weekend, finishing with the sixth fastest time in New England Division III at 43.33 seconds.

Mariners riding a wave

• The New England Collegiate Conference selected Mitchell College junior shortstop Garet Griffin as its player of the week for the third time this season. Griffin powered the Mariners to three wins, contributi­ng a home run, double and two RBI while finishing with multiple hits in each game. With a 17-1 win over Becker College on Monday, the Mariners (15-6, 5-1) extended their winning streak to seven in a row.

• Senior Ashley Murtha was named the NECC player of the week in women’s lacrosse after scoring in a season-high 10 goals with three assists in 20-6 rout of Dean College. It was the third time in her career that she’s scored at least 10 goals in a game.

• Two softball players received NECC weekly honors. Sophomore shortstop Suzanne Vachon was named player of the week after batting .524 with a team-best nine RBI and 11 runs scored for the Mariners, who won five of six games to improve to 7-6 overall. First baseman Italia Krick was the top rookie, batting .563 with four doubles, six RBI and seven runs scored.

Around the region

• UConn was rewarded for a productive 4-0 week with two baseball players receiving weekly honors from the American Athletic Conference. Sophomore Tim Cate was named the pitcher of the week and freshman Anthony Prato earned honorable mention status. Cate helped the Huskies (16-9, 3-0) to a series sweep of nationally-ranked East Carolina, earning the win in a 3-2 victory on Friday. He pitched seven innings, striking out a career-high 13 and allowing five hits. Prato went 6-for-17 at the plate and added three RBI last week. It’s the first time UConn has swept a series from a top 25 foe since accomplish­ing the feat against No. 7 Notre Dame in 2002.

• Mercy College junior Morgan Lloyd, an East Lyme graduate, went 5-for-7 with two RBI in a recent softball doublehead­er sweep of Chestnut College. Lloyd, an outfielder, is batting a team-best .526.

• Adam Howard, a junior from Waterford, won his singles and doubles matches in Western Connecticu­t State University’s 9-0 rout of John Jay. He didn’t lose a game while sweeping his No. 3 singles match.

• Waterford’s Connor Lewis improved his pitching record to 2-1 by leading Hartford past Fairfield, 4-3, in game two of a doublehead­er on Sunday. Lewis, a sophomore right-hander, had his best performanc­e of the season, allowing one run and six hits while striking out four in seven innings. He didn’t issue a walk.

• Rhode Island College sophomore Margaret Buckley of Norwich, a member of the women’s indoor track and field team, earned a spot on the Little East Winter All-Academic team. Junior Lindsey Reinhart, a women’s basketball player from Ledyard, also made the team.
