THOMAS FARRAGHER TO SPEAK AT URI GRADUATE COMMENCEMENT
Boston Globe columnist and Associate Editor Thomas Farragher will speak at the University of Rhode Island’s Graduate Commencement on May 20, the university has announced. He also is slated to receive the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa, on May 21.
Farragher, a 1977 URI graduate and a former reporter for The Day, was a member of the Boston Globe’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Spotlight Team that investigated child sexual abuse within the Catholic Church in Boston, according to his biography.
Vladimir Duthiers, a broadcast journalist who won the Peabody and Emmy Awards, also will speak and receive an honorary degree on May 21.
“As we mark The University of Rhode Island’s 125th Anniversary and celebrate the success of our newest graduates, we are privileged to present the University’s highest honor, the Honorary Doctorate degree, to stellar accomplished graduates, such as Vladimir Duthiers and Thomas Farragher,” URI President David M. Dooley said in the announcement. “We are proud to have this unique opportunity to recognize these individuals for their achievements and lasting contributions to the University of Rhode Island, the state of Rhode Island, the nation, and the world.”
