Craig singles in winning run for Stonington
Stonington — Miranda Arruda homered twice and Erin Craig singled home Trinity Lennon with the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning Wednesday as the Stonington High School softball team edged Fitch 6-5.
Fitch's Jonell Hobert led off the top of the eighth with a home run to give the Falcons (8-4) a 5-4 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, however, Abby Flakus singled, Lennon walked, Lainnie Connor singled to load the bases and Collette Dreher walked to force in the tying run for Stonington (9-4). Craig followed with her decisive single.
Arruda had solo homers in the third and the fifth, Craig had a two-run double in the fourth inning and Lennon earned the victory pitching for the Bears.
Ally Georgetti had a two-run homer for Fitch in the fifth inning. In other games: • Alex Chambers, Olivia Quagan and Mya Delesdernier had three hits each to lift East Lyme to a 13-3 victory over Killingly. Isabel Siciliano earned the victory for the Vikings (5-6), who finished with 16 hits.
• Griswold scored two runs in the first inning on squeeze bunts and Maya Waldron pitched a complete game shutout as the unbeaten Wolverines defeated Waterford 4-0. Ciana Chiappone had two hits for Waterford (8-4). Griswold is 12-0.
• Wheeler lost to Plainfield 5-3 in an ECC Division III game. Gracie Anglin was 4-for-4 and Julia Ahern was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI for Wheeler (2-9, 2-5).
• Audrey Gavin, Liz Richard and Jocelyn Campbell each had a hit in Old Lyme's 7-0 loss to East Hampton. Old Lyme is 2-8.
• Daisy Palsimano was 4-for-4 and scored five runs as Norwich Tech beat Grasso Tech 20-5 in a Constitution State Conference game on Tuesday. Erin McBride hit a two-run homer, Madison Bodley drove in two runs and Palsimano had two triples, stole two bases and drove in three runs for Norwich Tech. Ashley Cambisaca drove in two runs for Grasso Tech (0-10), which lost to Parish Hill 21-5 on Wednesday.
