Montville boys stay unbeaten atop Div. II

Montville — Nik Strickland and Greg Clark each won three individual events and the Montville High School boys' track team defeated Woodstock Academy 113-37 Wednesday in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division II matchup.

Strickland took the 110-meter high hurdles (17.1 seconds), 300 hurdles (43.8) and the long jump (18-7) for the Indians, who are undefeated at 6-0 overall, 3-0 in the division. Clark took the 100 (11.6), 200 (23.6) and javelin (136-10) and also contribute­d to the winning 4x100 relay.

Andrew Petherick, Clark, Van Heller and Nik Angell combined to win the 4x100 in 46.6 and Derek Strickland, Quinn Bond, Colin Nickerson and Jason Ketcham took the 4x400 in 4:05.0. In other meets: • Tom Readett, Alex Schwindt and Alex Butler won two events each as Fitch beat New London 125-23 in an ECC Division I meet. Readett won the 1,600 (4:56.6) and 800 (2:15.8), Schwindt won the 200 (23.6) and pole vault (12-6) and Butler won the long jump (17-10.5) and triple jump (34-8.5). Ethan Alves, Adrian Albo, Matt Kerst, Dan Gaiewski, Cleon McLish, Juan Moscol and Adrian Atad also won events for Fitch (4-1, 2-1). Amari Morgan and Renelson Michel won events for New London (0-6, 0-3).

• Nick Fitch was first in the 1,600 meters in 4:41 to pace Norwich Free Academy over Ledyard 98-52, as the Wildcats remained undefeated overall (4-0) and in Division I (2-0). Jawaun Johnson won the 200 (22.6) while Chris Hebert took first in the javelin (146-5) and Marcus Gates won the high jump (6-2) for the Wildcats. Colin Wiltshire placed first in the 110 hurdles (16.5) and triple jump (41-7) while Richard Mullaney won the discus (102-10) and Manny Deshields-Sanabria won the long jump (19-5.5) for Ledyard (3-2, 1-1).

• Devin Craig won the long jump (20-1), triple jump (41-4), high jump (6-3) and 110 hurdles to power Waterford past Killingly 97-43 in a Division II meet. The Lancers improved to 3-2, 2-1.

Girls

• Christi Johnson, Lauren Ross and Michaela MacCracken won two events each as Montville beat Woodstock 105-39 in an ECC Division II meet. Johnson won the shot put (30-6) and discus (92-9), Ross won the 100 hurdles (17.3) and high jump (4-6) and MacCracken won the long jump (15-1) and 200 (28.2). Taleeya Thomas, Abby Rasmussen, Lexi Peck, Rachel Marchini, Emma Guirleo and Mady Whittaker also won events for Montville (5-1, 3-0).

• Madison Powe and Colleen Duffy won two events each, leading Fitch to a 136-6 win over New London in an ECC Division I meet. Powe won the 100 (12.7) and long jump (15-3) and Duffy won the shot put (32-3) and discus (85-3). Denise Strong, Julia Adrian, Janaya Burley, Amara Robinson, Neria Yelverton, Grace Powe, Ryana Kelsey, Lily Johnson and Emma Smith also won events for Fitch (7-2, 4-0). Madyson Robledo and won an event for New London (2-7, 0-4).

• Joyce Yuen won the long jump (14-7), high jump (4-10) and triple jump (32-5.5) for NFA in a 118.5-31.5 victory over Ledyard in the ECC's Division I. Stephanie Jarvis added to the victory with wins in the 100 and 200 meters and the Wildcats (4-0, 2-0) swept the relays. Alexis LaPerle (300 hurdles), Miranda Chesnut (discus) and Delaney Gagnon (javelin) had wins for Ledyard (3-2, 1-1).

• Zora Labonte finished first in 200 and 400 meters in Waterford's 80-70 loss to Killingly in Division II. Sophia Podeszwa won the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles for Waterford (2-3, 1-2).
