Montville girls earn a share of ECC Division III lacrosse title

Indians rise to the top in just fourth varsity season

-

Montville — Montville High School girls' lacrosse coach Kristin Ventresca called Wednesday's victory "a huge deal."

The Indians topped Wheeler 171 and clinched a tie for the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III championship in just their fourth season as a varsity program. Montville shared the title with St. Bernard, with the teams splitting their regular-season matchups.

Kenzie Ullrich had four goals and an assist and Karlee Rewers three goals and three assists for Montville (9-6, 5-1).

The four girls who celebrated Senior Night on Wednesday, Rewers, Alyssa Turchetta, Hailey Adcock and Danielle Ida, were freshmen on the Indians' first varsity team.

"It was pretty cool to do it on Senior Night with the seniors," Ventresca said. "If I look at the team, it's the smallest I've ever had, but it's the most dedicated I've ever had.

"I think we won three games in year two. Last year we qualified for states. This season, some days we didn't get off the bus, but the girls always picked themselves back up. You can look at one game we never should have lost. The next day, I thought we were going to not have a great practice and we had a great practice. The girls just moved on.

“It's a great team, an absolutely amazing team."
