Bears beat Fitch girls

Stonington now 13-0 after winning battle of ECC divisional champs

Stonington — Gabby Dellacono, Charlotte Johnstone, Makenzie Sadler and Margot Goodman won singles matches in Stonington's 7-0 victory over Fitch in a girls' tennis match on Wednesday.

The Bears (13-0) can complete a perfect regular season with a win at Woodstock Academy on Monday afternoon.

Stonington is the Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division II champion, while Fitch (12-3) is the Division I title-winner.

Stonington's doubles winners were Brie Fratoni-Jaskiewicz and Hannah Middleton, Phoebe Townsend and Holly Foster and Cassie Onorato and Ainsley Johnstone. In other matches: • New London beat Montville 7-0. Brynn Doughty, Zara Dobson, Cassie Cannon and Tessa Rock won singles matches for New London (6-10) as did the doubles teams of Alaysia Thomas-Chloe Watson, Anna-Lena Bastl-Princess Omotosho and Keren Gabriel-Junie Dulcice.

• Erika DeAndrade, Rachel Kane and Cara Tran won their singles matches in Ledyard's 5-2 win over Norwich Free Academy in ECC Division I.

Freshmen Marissa Howard and LiLia Burdo posted their first varsity win as a doubles team for the Colonels (7-7, 3-4). Maddie Bell won at No. 3 singles for the Wildcats (5-9, 2-6).

• Old Lyme swept the doubles matches without losing a set during a 5-2 victory over Haddam-Killingwor­th in the Shoreline Conference.

The teams of Marissa Smith-Shannon Nosal, Maria Donato-Callie Kotzan and Sophie Warlitz-Emily O'Brien were easy winner for the Wildcats, whose other cames came from Brynn McGlinchey and Emma Bass in singles.

• Norwich Tech fell to 2-6 in the Constituti­on State Conference with a 5-2 loss to Platt Tech. Katie Pescatello won her singles match for the Warriors as did the doubles team of Samantha Grott-Riley Riewerts.

Boys

• Stonington swept singles play and beat Fitch 5-2. Jake Stiger, William Michelson, Sean Bessette and Graham Johnstone won their matches for the Bears (12-1) along with Filip Aubrecht-Sam Snediker at No. 3 doubles.

The teams of Gabe Messina-Francis DelCampo and Chris Russo-Ben Flax won for the Falcons (8-7).

• Williams School finished its season with a 5-2 victory over Marianapol­is in an SENE match.

Jon Powell, Reese Berman and Devin Shah won singles matches for the Blues (7-6, 6-2) along with the doubles teams of Miles Schuman-Oliver Foster and Eagon Fu-Ersai Fai.

• Eric Wu, Ashish Joshi and Sumeet Kadian won singles matches in unbeaten East Lyme's 6-1 win over Waterford. The Vikings improve to 13-0 and can finish an unbeaten season by defeating New London/Wheeler on Thursday. Fadi Hage posted a win at No. 2 singles for the Lancers (8-7).

• St. Bernard beat Killingly 7-0 in an ECC Division III match. Kyle Keefe, Shine Yang, Jordan Huang won in straight sets for the Saints (8-4, 6-0) and Sean Crowe won in three sets at No. 4 singles.
