Gottshall, Wildcats break it open in the fifth

Norwich — Brooke Gottshall's solo home run over the left-center field fence sparked a five-run fifth inning Thursday as the second-ranked Norwich Free Academy softball team defeated Glastonbury 13-1.

NFA led 4-1 through four innings before breaking the game open in the fifth on Senior Day.

Hailee Schrader was 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI for NFA (18-1), Shea Gendron 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI and Gottshall had a tworun double in addition to the home run. Sophia DiCocco and Taylor Nute each added two hits and Beth Fleming struck out 10 for the Wildcats.

• Stonington scored three runs on three hits and a hit batter in the top of the eighth inning to beat East Lyme 7-4. Stonington (14-5) trailed 3-2 going to the seventh, but tied the game when Colette Dreher scored on a fourbase error and took the lead when Erin Craig singled and scored on another error by East Lyme (8-9). East Lyme tied the game 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh when Megan Nolan singled and scored. Abby Flakus had three hits for Stonington, including a double. Mya Robinson had three hits and two RBI for East Lyme.

• Killingly scored twice in the top of the 15th inning and held on to beat Ledyard 4-3. The game was tied 2-2 after 13 innings Wednesday, requiring Killingly to return to Ledyard for the game's conclusion Thursday. Ashley Veillette struck out 19 for Killingly, which took a 4-2 lead in the 15th before Ledyard rallied for a run in the bottom of the inning. Ledyard finished the season 7-13.

• Jayden Delaporta tossed a one-hitter with seven strikeouts, leading Fitch past Montville 5-0. Jo Hobert and Taylor Wolfgang each had two hits while Angelina Doak had a single, triple and RBI for the Falcons (13-6). Alexis Michon had the only hit for Montville (9-11).

• Sadie Rubitski doubled for Old Lyme in an 11-2 loss to North Branford. Old Lyme is 3-15.

• Tourtellotte scored seven runs in the top of the third inning and went on to beat Wheeler 9-4 in an ECC Division III game. Nikki Collins was 3-for-4 for Wheeler (3-15, 3-9).

• Bacon Academy scored four runs in the top of the first inning and beat Norwich Tech 10-2.
