Fitch boys beat Bacon and qualify for state lacrosse tourney

Colchester — Zach Letellier scored four goals as Fitch qualified for the CIAC Class M boys' lacrosse tournament with a 128 win over Bacon Academy on Friday.

Riley Jordan had three goals and an assist, Bray Wilson had two goals and two assists, Noah Reuling had a goal and five assists and Christian Snodgrass made 21 saves for Fitch, which finishes the regular season at 7-9. In other games: • East Lyme scored eight goals in the second half to pull away for a 13-8 victory over Norwich Free Academy in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division I game. James McCoy had five goals and two assists for the Vikings (9-7, 6-0) while Sean Williams added four goals and four assists. Chris Ladyga had two goals and two assists for the Wildcats (5-11, 3-3) while Carl Ward added a pair of goals.

H.S. baseball

• Austin Brandt and Owen Wheeler combined for five hits, six runs and five RBI in the top two spots in the batting order as Ledyard beat New London 10-1 in an ECC Division I game. Brandt, the leadoff hitter, was 2-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored and Wheeler was 3-for5 with two RBI and three runs scored. James Laconico had two hits and Drew Riffle drove in two runs for Ledyard (12-8, 4-4). Cade Walters pitched a five-hitter for the win. Aidan Brennan singled and doubled for New London (6-12, 1-7).

• John John Jose pitched a six-hitter as Coginchaug beat Old Lyme 6-0 in a Shoreline Conference game. Jace Funaro, Liam Holloway and Julian Muller had two hits each for Old Lyme (14-6, 4-4).

H.S. softball

• Beth Fleming pitched a one-hitter, a leadoff single in the sixth, and struck out 15 as second-ranked Norwich Free Academy ended its regular season with a 5-0 nonleague win over Windsor. Brooke Gotschall went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI for the Wildcats (19-1) while Shea Gendron was 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI, Sara Cote and Hailee Schrader each had two hits, and Julie Vincent had a hit and two RBI.

• Madison Bodley was 4-for4 with four RBI as Norwich Tech completed its regular season with a 12-10 win over New London in a nonleague game. Bodley, who doubled twice and scored five runs, also pitched a six-hitter for the win. Erin McBride had three hits, Vanessa Gumbs scored three runs and Emnet Miskiewicz had a two-run double for the Warriors (16-4). Jhannah Rivers was 2-for-2 and scored twice, Jasmine Silva had a two-run single and scored twice and Bria Fielding scored twice for New London (2-15).

• Sadie Rubitski and Sarah Hayward had three hits each and Audrey Gavin pitched a five-hitter as Old Lyme beat Portland 12-1 in a Shoreline Conference game. Gavin, who struck out 10 with one walk, was also 2-5. Rachel Hayward had two hits and scored twice, Sarah Hayward doubled and Rubitski drove in two runs for Old Lyme (4-15, 3-13).

• Westerly struck four five runs in the fourth inning to break a 2-2 tie and defeat East Lyme 7-2 in a nonleague game. Alexander Chambers had a pair of hits for the Vikings (810) while losing pitcher Olivia Quagan allowed only six hits and struck out 12.

Boys' tennis

• Stonington swept the doubles competitio­n and cruised to a 6-1 victory over St. Bernard. The teams of Ben Anderson-Chris West and Kyle Remmert-Spencer Jones were easy winners for the Bears (13-1), who also picked up a doubles forfeit win, while William Michelson, Sean Bessette and Graham Johnstone were singles winners. Alex Zuczek won his No. 1 singles match to remain unbeaten for the Saints (8-5).

• Waterford finished its regular season with a 7-0 victory over Lyman Memorial. Hugh Sokoloski, Fadi Hage, Robert Sammataro and Dominco Bruno were singles winners for the Lancers (9-7) as were the doubles teams of Adam Pinch-David Perez, David Hausmann-Jayson Page and Hugh Mugavero-David Blagden.

• Ledyard beat Fitch 5-2 in the ECC Division I and regular season finale for both teams. Nate McCracken, Brandon Donovan and Jack Woodruff won singles matches for Ledyard (12-3, 6-2) along with the doubles teams of Chris Charette-Trevor Hutchins and Sam Lahti-Blake McHale. Mathew Krick won at No. 4 singles for Fitch (8-8, 4-4) and Chris Russo-Ben Flax won at No. 2 doubles.

Girls' tennis

• Fitch completed a perfect ECC Division I season with a 7-0 win over Ledyard. Laura Krick, Samantha Cote, Kailey Sullivan and Jessica Cote won singles matches for the Falcons (13-3, 8-0) as did the doubles teams of Jillian Leger-Nina Lupo, Cheanna Holloway-Sneha Kumar and Emmy Poudrill-Charlina Holloway. Ledyard is 7-8, 3-5.

• Stonington remained unbeaten with a 7-0 win over St. Bernard. Gabby Dellacono beat Michaela Abate 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and teammates Charlotte Johnstone, Margot Goodman and Makenzie Sadler also won their matches. The doubles teams of Hannah Middleton-Brielle Fratoni-Jaskiewicz and Holly Foster-Phoebe Townsend won for Stonington (14-0) and seniors Emma Burnside and Aliyah Cook won 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 3 doubles. St. Bernard finishes the regular season at 9-5.

• Waterford closed out its regular season with a 7-0 win over Lyman Memorial. Alaina Moger, Sarah Verity, Sophie Wang and Sophie Impelliter­i won singles matches for the Lancers (11-5) as did the doubles teams of Catherine Yao-Stacey Tasoulas, Deepa Reddy-Sophie Joseph and Margaret Lincoln-Tessa Dipollina.

College baseball

• UConn led 5-0 after three innings and held on to beat East Carolina 6-4 in an American Athletic Conference game. Alex FeFevre hit a two-run homer and Zac Susi was 2-for-4 with two runs scored for UConn (31-22, 14-9).

College track and field

• Connecticu­t College freshman Danny Aschale captured the 10,000-meter race in 31:10.72 during the MIT Last Chance Qualifier. In addition, Ben Bosworth was second in the 1,500 (3:51.45). In the women's meet, freshman Koko Mensah won the shot put and broke her own school record with a throw of 44 feet, onehalf inch.
