SECOND ROUND OF OPEN HOUSES ANNOUNCED FOR JOINT LAND USE STUDY

The Southeastern Connecticut Council of Governments, SUBASE New London and the City of Groton, Town of Groton, Ledyard, New London, Montville and Waterford are seeking public input on a Joint Land Use Study.

A Joint Land Use Study is a cooperative planning process that promotes compatibility between community development and the Navy's missions, while minimizing impacts of the Navy's operations on adjacent communities and ecosystems. The final product will include measures to support a healthy economy, environment and community while safeguarding the military mission.

Participants at the first open house on March 29 weighed in on the initial list of land use compatibility issues and shared interests between the Navy and municipalities. Information about the meeting is available at bit.ly/JLUS01.

The public is invited to the second series of open houses, which will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and again at 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, at Waterford Town Hall, 15 Rope Ferry Road.

Both meetings will include a presentation, an open house with displays, team members available for questions and opportunities to share thoughts. The project consultant team will present an initial list of strategies to address compatibility issues and shared interests between the Navy and municipalities.

Comments throughout the approximately yearlong effort will be welcome. There will be one more public open house later in the process.
