Montville — George A. Litwin, went home to be with the Lord on May 20, 2017. George was the husband of the late Jean T. Litwin.

He was born June 27, 1929, in New London, the son of the late John J. Litwin and Lucille Litwin. He was known as “Pop” to family and friends and attended schools in Groton and New London. He attended the former Bulkeley School and was an alumnus of that school. George worked at Electric Boat for 27 years, retiring as ship superintendent in 1984. He also worked for the Town of Montville for 10 years, retiring from the Parks and Recreation Department in 1994, and then went on to work at the Mohegan Sun Casino as a security officer for four years.

He served for four years in the Army, including time with the 187th RCT Airborne, and was awarded various medals during the war. He also served four years in the Navy as an electrician’s mate. He belonged to and held a life membership in the Electric Boat Management Association, AARP, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 189, Disabled Veterans William Morse Post in Norwich, and the Electric Boat Athletic Club.

George loved going to the beach every summer and enjoyed visiting friends and cheering up people that were homebound. He enjoyed working, mowing the lawn, raking the leaves and just working outdoors. George was always on the move and never slowed down. He was a tough man with a gentle heart who never complained.
