Norwich — Debra Jean Staggs, 65, a longtime Norwich resident, died on Friday, May 19, 2017, in New Haven.

Born July 2, 1951, in Newport, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Pauline Lucille (Seaver) Cox and was the loving wife of Elbert Richard Staggs.

Debra was a kind, caring person who loved spending time with her family. She adored her children and grandchild­ren and treasured the many trips to Walt Disney World with them. Her friends considered her a “Disney Super Fan” for her many trips to Disney World with friends and family. She was the one to plan the visits for a great experience. She was a dedicated member of the Leffingwel­l Baptist Church for many years, and a member of The Mayflower Society where, as a descendent of the Hathaway line, she did extensive research on both her and her husband’s families.

In addition to her husband Elbert, she is survived by two children, Kimberly Lynn Staggs and Craig Matthew Staggs; six grandchild­ren, Jarred F. Kennedy, Victoria E. Kennedy, Jaime M. Acevedo, Linden Staggs, Kristine Staggs, and Abigail Staggs; siblings, Linda Cox, Paula Atlas, Robert L. Cox Jr, and Daryll Cox; great grandchild­ren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predecease­d by her sister, Celia Cox.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, at the Leffingwel­l Baptist Church, 392 Salem Turnpike, Oakdale. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Road, Uncasville.
