Groton — Paul C. Huber, 93, of Mumford Cove, husband to Dorothy (Lapsley) Huber, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, July 27, 2017.

Born in Somerville, Mass., he was the son of the late Otto and Bertha (Rogers) Huber. Growing up in Hyde Park, Mass., Paul was a self-taught musician (trumpet and piano) who loved jazz and picked up gigs after work. He was a lover of swing music and won several dance contests.

He later served in the Army and was selected for engineerin­g training at Pratt Institute and Brooklyn Shipyard. Paul was then deployed to the European Theater in WWll, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. When he came home he continued his education at Northeaste­rn University. He also met the love of his life, Dot, and they married in 1950. Paul was a design supervisor for 36 years at Electric Boat, a division of General Dynamics. He was proud to say he worked on the Nautilus and went on several ship checks. Paul lived in Groton for 58 years.

Paul was one of the good guys and a gentleman. He was a loving, dedicated husband and father to whom family was paramount. He was a devout Catholic and a patriot. He was active in his community as a Little League coach, as Fitch Booster Club president, and as the Mumford Cove Building Committee chairman for many years. He was an avid golfer and an enthusiast­ic fan of sports, especially Boston and UConn. He will be greatly missed by his love, Dot, and his children.

In addition to his wife of 67 years, he is survived by seven of his children, Dottie Huber Hoyt and her husband, Richard M. Hoyt Jr., of Mumford Cove, Gerard Huber of Mystic, Janice Bacewicz and her husband, Joseph Jr., of Tolland, Patricia Friar and her husband, Timothy, of Groton Long Point, Pamela Huber Villari of Lexington, Mass., Bernadette Waterman and her husband, Todd, of Boston, Mass., and David Huber and his wife, Diann, of Mystic; a daughter-inlaw, Nancy C. Huber, of Reston, Va.; a sister, Kathleen Keenan, of San Antonio, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Huber, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

He is also survived by his 15 grandchild­ren, Richard M. Hoyt III and his wife, Tara, John Hoyt, Joseph Bacewicz III, Sarah Helms and her husband, Jackson, Paul Huber and his wife, Andrea, Anne and Sarah Huber, Christine and Catherine Friar, Leo Villari II, Andrea, Todd, and Danielle Waterman, Cory Calamari and Alexandria Huber; as well as six great-grandchild­ren, Amelia, Avery and Violet Hoyt, and Dorothy, Ada and Edith Helms. He was predecease­d by a son, Paul G. Huber; and siblings Bernard, James and Elizabeth Huber.

The family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Avalon Healthcare for their dedicated and compassion­ate care over the last five months.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, at the Mystic Funeral Home, 51 Williams Ave. (Route 1), in Mystic. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5, at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69 Groton Long Point Road, Groton. Burial will follow with military honors at the Elm Grove Cemetery, Route 27, Mystic.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, Groton or Prostate Cancer Foundation (pcf.org).
