Oahu, Hawaii — Dr. Peter Robert Przekop Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in Hawaii surrounded by family on June 17, 2017, following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Allison Przekop and son, Isaiah “Kojo” Przekop.

Peter was born in Norwich on Nov. 7, 1954, to Peter Robert Przekop Sr. and Jane Louise (Ibbison) Przekop. He was the youngest of three children.

He is also survived by his two older sisters, Deborah Niedzwicki (Robert) and Marylou Skindzier, of Preston, and their children, his three nieces, Jayne Skindzier Leis, Kathryn Skindzier Davis and Meghan Niedzwicki. In addition, on his wife’s side, by two nephews, Cooper Mayo and Angel Nunez, and a niece, Alessandra Nunez.

Peter grew up in Norwich where he developed an interest in athletics at a very young age. He excelled in sports throughout his high school and college days. He also trained in traditiona­l kung fu and qigong.

After completing a degree in psychology, he was named a Martlett Scholar at McGill University where he completed a year of advanced study. He then went on to complete a master’s in psychology and a Ph.D. in neuroscien­ce.

After his postdoctor­al studies, Dr. Przekop attended Western University College of Osteopathi­c Medicine in Ponoma, Calif. where he met his wife, Allison A. Almendras. After graduating from medical school, he pursued training in internal medicine and neurology followed by a fellowship in pain management. He received appointmen­ts as a professor in pediatrics and psychiatry at Loma Linda University Medical School. In 2008, Dr. Przekop founded the Pediatric Chronic Pain and Headache Clinic at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. During his tenure at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif., he developed and became the director of the Chronic Pain Program. In 2015, his work was published in his book, “Conquer Chronic Pain.” Dr. Przekop also sat on the Board of Trustees for the American Osteopathi­c Academy of Addiction Medicine and was a presenter at the annual Osteopathi­c Medical Education Conference.

He will be truly missed by the many lives he touched and influenced.

There will be a memorial service to honor Dr. Przekop at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5, at St. Mary’s Mausoleum on Boswell Avenue in Norwich.
