Stonington — Nancy Hoffman Wilcox, 68, of Latimer Point, Stonington, died too young on Aug. 20, 2017.

She was born on July 27, 1949, in Norwich, to Louis and Aldea (Purple) Hoffman and grew up in Norwich and on the waters of Fisher’s Island Sound. Nancy graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1967. She then attended Southern Connecticu­t State University and Mitchell College, graduating from Mitchell in 1970. She married G. Jeffrey Wilcox in Norwich on Oct. 3, 1970. She was predecease­d by her parents and her husband just in May of this year.

She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Watson and her husband, Joel, of Mystic; son, Brian of Stonington; the lights of her life, her grandchild­ren, Alexandria, Hunter, Ainsley, Bryce, Emma, Cole and Archer; and her dog, Athena.

Nancy worked at the United States Coast Guard Academy from 1970 until her daughter was born in 1972. She then stayed home with her children and was very involved in their schools, most of the time as “class mom.” When her children were older, she volunteere­d at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London and then with Hospice of Southeaste­rn Connecticu­t. When Nancy returned to the work force in the mid 1980’s, she started at the Groton Board of Education and then moved to Fitch High School where she worked until her death.

A memorial service will be held for Nancy at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the First United Methodist Church on Willow St. in Mystic.
