Mystic — Richard K. “Dick” Bloeser, age 79, of Mystic, passed away on Sunday morning, Aug. 27, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London.

He was born in Ledyard on Dec. 28, 1937, the son of Francis and Edna Lamphere Bloeser Chism. Dick was married to Norma Vanasse on Sept. 7, 1963, in Groton. She survives him.

Dick was a 1955 graduate of Robert E. Fitch Sr. High School, had served in the Army Reserve, and worked as a meter reader for CL&P from 1963 until retiring in 1998.

Dick was an avid softball player, playing for the Boys Club team in the Groton softball league and for the Blue Whales in the Mystic Community Center league. He was a fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants and enjoyed watching the UConn women’s basketball team with his wife.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Richard K. Bloeser Jr. and his wife, Valerie Walsh, of Mystic; two daughters, Crystal Bloeser and Eric Adcock of Ledyard, and Kellie Taylor and her husband. Daniel, of Ledyard; six grandchild­ren, Devin, Dana, Daniel, Dylan, Douglas and Kaylee; a great-grandson, Jameson; and his Chihuahua and best buddy, Beau.

The family would like to send a very special thank you to ICU nurse Bobbi and ER nurse Katie for their care of Dick.

Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, with a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. Interment will be private.
