ONLINE FEEDBACK
Readers of theday.com discussed drone use after reading the article “Drone flying near swallows in Old Lyme raises concerns.” Commenters questioned what laws govern flying drones, still a relatively new phenomenon.
“I loathe drones. I stopped going to Hammonasset because of the annoying behavior of operators who cannot seem to grasp the concept of “do not disturb the wildlife.” It’s upsetting and disturbing that some people think it’s fine to harass all wildlife. I guess you really can’t fix stupid.” —JS
“I hope the drone owners are found and fined to the hilt. We’ve been lucky to see the swallows first hand on a river cruise out of Haddam and it was one of the most magical experiences ever….” —Rufus
“Most drone owners don’t exhibit this type of behavior. Always a few bad apples in the bunch.
“This is to those that just can’t observe the birds from a distance: leave your urges to fly the drones at home! Take binoculars and a camera if you need to, but leave the drone back at the house.
“Respect that the animals around us are losing their habitats all the time and deserve not to be disturbed. Let them be!!!
Also know this drone owners, there are ways for you to be tracked by the GPS signals that are constantly being transmitted. Don’t jeopardize your ownership (and possible fines) for a picture of flying with the birds. While you are not technically in violation of drone regulations, you may be in violation of rules pertaining to migratory birds, as you are disturbing them, which may fall under Federal Guidelines.” —one more thing
“Maybe they’re making a wildlife movie.
“Would a hawk or eagle create the same drama? —Leo
