Gary Patterson

Griswold — Gary B. Patterson, 65, of Griswold, passed away at The William W. Backus Hospital on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017. He was the loving husband of Linda and father of Benjamin.

Gary was born on March 4, 1952, in Middletown, the son of Kenneth and Elsie Patterson. After graduating from Vinal Tech, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy proudly serving on the USS Greenling. He recounted experiences from his service on a daily basis.

Following discharge, he received a degree in teaching and taught shop classes at the American School for the Deaf.

He changed paths in life and ended up working in the Safety Department at Electric Boat. He received his master’s degree in occupational safety and health and ended his safety career with the Town of Groton, retiring in 2013. Upon his retirement, he joined the MET team at the Lisbon Home Depot, a job he loved.

Gary is survived by his wife and son; a sister and brotherin-law, Pat and Bill Garrity of Scotland; a nephew and his wife, Will and Rachael Coleda of Castleton on Hudson, N.Y., and their children; and his beloved pets, Angus, Cooper, Yogi, Spike and Bibs. May he be greeted in heaven by his family and his other animals who went before him.
