- — Mary Biekert

With the amount of natural disasters that have occured as of late, one may consider visiting New London’s MS17 Art Project’s contemporary art space to view works created by artist Gail Gelburd in his newest exhibition “Unbound Presences.” His pieces, which are influenced by the aftermath of natural calamities, attempt to acknowledge the power and destruction of these “formidable opponents.” Gelburd hopes to shed light on the stories of those who have survived through tsnamis, avalanches, hurricanes and earthquakes, among other disasters, while giving viewers a fully immersive and mesmerizing experience. An opening reception, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday at the MS17 Art Project Contemporary Art Spaces located in the Atrium at Harris Place at 165 State St., New London. The show will run through Jan. 31. Admission is free. Hours are 1-5 p.m. Wed., 1-6 p.m. Thurs., 1-5 p.m. Fri., noon-4 p.m. Sat.; (860) 694-8321, www.ms17artproject.com.
