The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticu­t introduced three new Trustees at its annual meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

Mary Broderick of East Lyme has served on numerous boards and in leadership roles at the local, state, and national level, including as president of the National School Board Associatio­n and president of the Connecticu­t Boards of Education. Mystic resident Harry Ferguson practiced law in Connecticu­t and Massachuse­tts and serves as the chairman of the board of Child & Family Agency of SECT. Marilynn “Lynn” Malerba of Niantic has served as the 18th chief of the Mohegan Tribe since 2010, and is the first female chief in the tribe’s modern history. Prior to her work for the Mohegan Tribe, Lynn had a lengthy career as a registered nurse, culminatin­g as the director of cardiology and pulmonary services at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

The Foundation’s Board of Trustees also instated new officers. Steve Larcen of Niantic will serve as chairman, David Schulz of Mystic as vice chairman, Cathy Bokoff of Norwich as secretary, and Ed Higgins of Woodstock as treasurer. To learn more, visit www.cfect. org.

Sofia Sees Hope, a Ledyard-based patient advocacy organizati­on dedicated to transformi­ng the lives of those affected by blindness caused by Leber congenital amaurosis and other rare inherited retinal diseases, has expanded its Board of Directors.

Three new positions were added to the board in November. Elizabeth Borysewicz is an educationa­l consultant with the state Department of Rehabilita­tion Services and the Bureau of Education Services for the Blind. Stephanie Filippetti is senior accountant at Hoyt, Filippetti & Malaghan, LLC, headquarte­red in Groton. Shanda Easley is a program manager for Thames River Family Program in Norwich.

Other Board of Directors members are: Michael Mondello, first vice president, investment officer, Wells Fargo Advisors LLC; Jeffrey Finman, independen­t consultant, Jupiter Point Pharma Consulting, LLC; Dr. George Adrian, O.D., owner, Groton Eye Center; Patricia Coan, product manager, portfolio developmen­t at Eagle Investment Systems; Charles Priebe, former constructi­on executive.
