Peter Woyasz

Norwich — Peter R. Woyasz, 77, a lifelong Norwich resident, died peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018.

Born in Norwich, on Aug. 5, 1940, he was the son of Walter and Cecile (Porier) Woyasz. Peter was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy Class of 1958 and the New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Boston. He was the owner of Woyasz & Son Funeral Service for over 50 years.

To describe his life is quite simple. He was a hard worker who was extremely passionate about his profession. To describe Peter as a person is a bit more complicated. He was generous, supportive, knowledgeable, resourceful and was always quick to help his family and friends. He was fun and witty and there were times he was steadfast and stubborn; but he was certainly happiest when he was working on any one of the 10 projects he would have going at any given time. He loved fixing and maintaining his “fleet” of cars. They weren’t always the fanciest of cars, but you can be assured that they were built “Ford Tough.” As a man of strong faith, he was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Norwich and was active with the bingo committee for many years.

He is survived by his children, Elizabeth (Rich) DeMauro, Laurie (John) Neveu, Carolyn (Dana) Festa, Jonathan (Elsa) Woyasz, and Debra (Benjamin) Taggard; grandchildren, Gavin, Matthew and Chelsea DeMauro, Joshua (Danielle), Jessica, Jordan and Jacob Neveu, and Ryan, Katharine and William Taggard; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle and Owen Neveu; two sisters, Carla Bass and Bernice (Jim) Huett; stepgrandchildren, Martin Palmieri and Kent Reyes Jr.; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Mason Reyes and his “little cookie girl” Gwynn Fernandez Palmieri; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Carol A. (Paradis) Woyasz in 1983.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at St. Joseph Church, 120 Cliff St., Norwich. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Salvation Army, 262 Main St., Norwich, CT 06360.
