Beauford, Sweeney power the Mariners

New London — Ashleigh Beauford scored 14 points to lead the Mitchell College women's basketball team to a 50-37 win over Wheelock in a New England Collegiate Conference game on Saturday.

Marissa Sweeney had 11 points and 11 rebounds and Kate McCormack had eight rebounds and five assists for Mitchell (38, 2-1). In other games: • Mairead Hynes scored 11 points and had six rebounds as Connecticu­t College beat Williams 60-52 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game. Kylie Caouette came off the bench to score 12 for Conn (8-3, 1-1).

Men's basketball

• No. 15 MIT rallied from a 15-point halftime deficit to beat Coast Guard 7465 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference game. Cameron Korb scored 17 of his 21 points in the second half for MIT (12-1, 2-0), which trailed 37-22 at halftime. Micah Baldez scored 20 with six rebounds and six assists, Noah Baldez had 15 points and seven rebounds and Justin Kane scored 10 for Coast Guard (8-3, 0-2).

• Avery Point lost to Naval Prep, 7152. Nick Fresch and Stonington's Amadi White had 12 points each and New London's Tyrel Martinez scored 11 for the Pointers (4-8).

• Williams built a 49-28 halftime lead and went on to beat Connecticu­t College 91-57 in a NESCAC game.

David Labossiere had eight points and six rebounds for Conn (5-8, 0-2) and teammate Dan Draffan came off the bench for 11 points.
