Lucy Marks
New London — Mrs. Lucy D. (Santora) Marks, age 104, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at Beechwood Manor in New London.
Lucy Marks was born on Dec. 20, 1913, in Marlborough, Mass., daughter of the late Michael and Aurora Santora. Lucy was the widow of Rosario (Yarky) Marks and she was predeceased by three sisters, Mae Cole, Nancy San Angelo and Pauline King, as well as four brothers, James, Patrick, Angelo and John Santora.
Mrs. Marks is survived by two daughters, Jean (Stomberg) Marks and Carol Corbeil of New London, nine grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A longtime resident of New London, Lucy was active in her church and community. Lucy was a volunteer at L+M Hospital and was very proud of her 25 years of volunteer service. In addition, Lucy was a parishioner at St. Joseph Church in New London for approximately 80 years and she was a member of the St. Joseph Women’s Social Club for many years. Lucy was dedicated to her family and she was very proud to be the matriarch of five generations.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to all of the staff at Beechwood Manor for their excellent and loving care of Lucy.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at St. Joseph’s Church (corner of Squire Street and Montauk Avenue) in New London. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in New London.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be considered to St. Joseph’s Women’s Social Club, 37 Squire St., New London, CT 06320.
The Thomas L. Neilan and Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
