Montville — It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that Henry Joseph Kobelski Sr., 96, of Montville, loving husband of Stella, father, grandfathe­r and great-grandfathe­r, entered into the arms of the Lord, and his eternal rest, alongside the angels in Heaven on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018.

Born in Montville, on July 22, 1921, he was the son of the late Maximilian and Michalena (Polikowski) Kobelski. Henry grew up in Montville and was a proud veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater with Company 1, 126th infantry regiment, 32nd infantry division as an anti-aircraft crewman.

He loved the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, gardening, fishing, holidays, birthdays and most of all spending any time with his family. He was a dear friend of many relatives and neighbors. He was a special man that everyone called “Pop” or “Uncle Hank.” Henry will be remembered for his infectious laugh and smile, kind heart, and good will towards others.

Henry is survived by his devoted wife, Stella M. Nabasny, of 67 years. He also leaves behind three children, Janice M. Cullen, Thomas H. Kobelski (Donna Collett) and Henry J. Kobelski Jr. (Shirley). Proud grandfathe­r of Richard C. Cullen (Elyssa), Stephen T. Kobelski (Amy) and Kerry D. Ledford (Kelly); and great-grandfathe­r of Christophe­r R. and Shea Cullen, Elise and Samuel Kobelski, Montana, Robert and Stephen Hurly; he is survived by his dearest sister-in-law, Rita Nabasny, who with many others called him “The Gem!”

He was predecease­d by his mother, father, eight brothers and sisters, as well as his grandson, Christophe­r F. Cullen.

He was a proud member of the operating engineers Local 478 and worked for many years with Zaist Constructi­on. He was a devoted parishione­r of Our Lady of the Lakes for many years, was a member of the Montville VFW Post 10060, the Polish American Citizens Club, and a member of Chesterfie­ld Fire Department.

The funeral will assemble at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Road, Uncasville, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. John Church. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Henry’s family would like to thank the 4th floor staff at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for their excellent care and profession­alism.
