Readers of theday.com applauded David Collins’ Feb. 7 column about a historic home that Connecticut Landmarks has allowed to slip into disrepair.

“Thank-you for bringing this to the public’s attention. Sounds like malfeasance to me.”

“Restoration of these old buildings was my type of work. There’s a lot of explaining to do.”

“Well written David! This is an embarrassment and I will also contact (Connecticut Landmarks) about this. They are too busy playing golf, hosting cocktail parties and doing all else but maintaining and supporting such treasures.” “Thumps up Mr. Collins!”

“Go David. Seems like an audit is the appropriate action needed here. Or is the property so bad one of the curators or friends will come forth and buy it to save it?”

“Thank you so much for bringing this to the public’s attention. An audit and quick action is needed to correct this wrong. I will be putting in my time and effort to see that these issues are addressed.” “Stonington’s Amistad.”

“It appears to betrayal of a public trust and the abuse of a donor’s intent. Which, come to think of it, may be an attorney general issue.”

“This is excellent reporting and I’m thankful that we found out about this before the building deteriorated further. Nothing like the bright light of public opinion to prod those in charge to do the right thing.” “Rob Simmons, this is your jurisdiction. Comments?”
