Stanley Wujtewicz Sr.

New London — Stanley Vincent Wujtewicz Sr., 99, formerly of New London, entered eternal life peacefully at Beechwood Rehabilita­tion and Care Center in New London on Thursday, March 22, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

Stanley was born in Norwalk, on Oct. 2, 1918, the son of Adam and Marianna (Kowalczyk) Wujtewicz. He married Iola (Moretti) Wujtewicz, in St. Joseph Church, on Nov. 23, 1946; she predecease­d him on Oct. 18, 2015.

Stanley served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he was stationed in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. After returning home from the war, Stanley was employed as a planner and estimator at the Naval Submarine Base New London and then as a carpenter at the Electric Boat Company in Groton from where he retired. He was a communican­t of St. Joseph Church in New London, and a former member of Seaside Council 17 Knights of Columbus; Elks Lodge 360, the New London Polish Club and the Italian Mutual Aid Society.

One of Stanley’s true passions in life was fishing and spending time on the water, always in search of the one that got away. He also enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends.

He is survived by three sons, Stanley Jr. and his wife, Ramona, of New London, Donald and his wife, Susan, of Harrington, Del. and Mark and his wife, Nadine, of Oakdale; six grandchild­ren, Michael, Tanya, Julie, Chase, Talia and Ariana; and four great-grandchild­ren, Justin, Sterling, Nathan and Bryce.

The funeral will assemble at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Entombment will follow in St. Mary Mausoleum with military honors. Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
