AMMUNITION PROMPTS ‘SHELTER IN PLACE’ AT SCHOOL IN WATERFORD
Waterford — Administrators at Clark Lane Middle School enacted a “shelter-in-place” protocol Tuesday morning after someone found a single round of ammunition in a classroom, and the district will have an increased police presence at the middle school and high school today.
The ammunition was found shortly after 10 a.m. Superintendent Thomas W. Giard III said in a message to parents and guardians that the school quickly involved law enforcement and that there was “no immediate threat to student safety.”
Giard said the shelter-in-place policy means no one was allowed in or out of the building.
“As part of our security protocol, a comprehensive search was conducted,” he said in a message Tuesday afternoon. “K-9 units from the Connecticut State Police were consulted regarding their capabilities as part of our investigation. The investigation is ongoing and there will be an increased police presence tomorrow at CLMS (Clark Lane Middle School) as well as Waterford High School.”
“As the investigation is ongoing, I ask that if your child shares any information with you that we should be aware of, please reach out to Waterford Public Schools administration or the Waterford Police Department. I also ask that you monitor your child’s social media use for any new information regarding this incident,” Giard wrote.
Police are investigating.
